Spring 2023

THE HOTTEST BLUSH TREND FOR SPRING 2023

A prominent blush trend seen on the runways for spring 2023, and on celebrities, is 70s-inspired draped blush, where a bright blush color is applied along your cheekbones and temples. While fabulous on the runway, this trend may cause one to appear odd, sunburned, or wind-chapped. To make this trend more wearable, use bronzer instead of blush, and apply it lightly, so it appears natural-looking.

HOW TO FIND YOUR PERFECT BRONZER COLOR

Your perfect bronzer color is the same as your darkest summer tan, one to three shades darker than your palest winter skin tone, and should match your skin’s undertone(s). When in doubt, choose a bronzer color that’s one shade darker than your current skin tone, foundation, or skin-perfecting concealer. When shopping for bronzer, bring a photo of yourself when you had a tan, and once you’ve narrowed down your bronzer color choices using the photo, hold them up next to your skin, and look into a mirror in natural daylight to see which compliments your complexion the most. Here are some bronzer suggestions based on skin color depth and skin undertone:

Spring is the time of year that ushers in a refreshing burst of warmth, color, and new life, and offers the opportunity to enjoy fresh, new beauty choices. The beauty trends for spring 2023 are vast and playful, and incorporate retakes on trends from the 70s, 90s, and early aughts.

FRESH, CLEAN SKIN FOR A NEW SEASON

A clean, natural no-makeup look is another major trend for spring; however, natural-looking skin coupled with hyper natural-looking makeup, another hot trend for spring, may cause one to appear washed out, so couple natural-looking skin with non-natural-looking makeup, such as bright-colored lips in a vinyl texture or brown smoky 90s eye makeup, also major spring trends. You can turn any bright lip color into a vinyl lip texture by applying a clear, high-shine lip gloss over the bright lip color. And you can create a brown smoky eye makeup look by using a clean, makeup-free eye makeup brush to buff along the line where your brown eye makeup ends, to remove any lines of demarcation and create a smoky effect. Make sure your eye makeup falls within your eye makeup zone.

EYELINER START AND STOP POINTS - YOUR EYE MAKEUP-ZONE:

There are always exceptions to the rule with where your eye makeup should start and stop; however, if you want to remain within the laws of traditional classic eye makeup application, your eye makeup should fall within your eye makeup-zone which begins at your start line and ends at your stop line.

START LINE:

To find your eye makeup-zone start line:

STEP 1: Hold a straightedge from the side of your nostril to the inner corner of the eye on the same side of your face, so it runs through your eyebrow.

The following are some suggestions of what can be used as a straightedge:

1: A ruler.

2: A lip liner pencil.

3: An eyeliner pencil.

4: An eyebrow pencil.

5: Dental floss pulled tautly.

NOTE: The line created by your straightedge is known as your start line and should intersect with where your eyebrow begins. From your start line outwards towards your hairline is where you should apply your eye makeup. Don’t apply any eye makeup from this line inwards towards your nose. The area from this line inwards towards your nose is known as your no eye makeup-zone.

STEP 2: Repeat STEP 1 on your other eye.

STOP LINE:

To find your eye makeup-zone stop line:

STEP 1:

Hold a straightedge from the outer corner of your nostril to the outer corner of your eye on the same side of your face, so it runs through your eyebrow. Don’t use the point where your skin folds at the outer corner of your eye, but instead use the point where your eye’s outer inner rim or water line touches the skin on your face as the outer corner of your eye. If you don’t get this mark correct, it will throw your eye makeup off. Alternatively, you can use the point of the end of the tail of your eyebrow as a marker because it will fall along the same line. If you’re missing hairs at the end of the tail of your eyebrow, use the outer corner of your eye as a marker. Your stop line will be more diagonal rather than vertical. This area is where your eye makeup should end. From your stop line inwards towards your nose is where you should apply your eye makeup. The area from this line outwards towards your hairline is known as your no eye makeup-zone.

STEP 2: Repeat STEP 1 on your other eye.

TIP:

* To create a cat-eye or winged eyeliner look, follow the diagonal line that’s your outer stop line to create the tail-flick at the outer corners of the eyes.

TOP HAIR TRENDS FOR SPRING 2023

Couple the trendy makeup looks of spring 2023 with bed-head hair, wet-looking hair, or hair that’s tied back or parted in the middle or on the side. These hair looks were seen in prominence on the runways. To create bedhead hair, apply a little hair pomade onto your palm, rub your hands together, and run your hands through your hair. Skin balms such as Ato Ai’s Ato Balm can also work well for this. To create wet-looking hair, apply a little hair shine serum onto your palm, such as Semi Di Lino Diamante Cristalli Liquidi by Alfaparf Milano, rub your palms together, and run your hands through your hair, focusing the application of the serum on the ends.

CHALKY, BRIGHT EYE MAKEUP FOR BLOOMING BEAUTIFUL EYES

A spring trend to pair with natural-looking skin is a pop of bright floral color on the eyes in a matte texture, to call attention to the eyes. To choose your best bright matte-textured eye makeup colors, learn which eye makeup colors are your eye color’s complementary/contrasting colors or which eye makeup colors make your eye color “pop” by reviewing the article “How to Wear Fall 2022 Beauty Trends to Look Your Best.” To be fully on-trend, wear chalky, bright eye makeup colors with natural-looking, dewy lips, which were also seen on the runway for spring. To create a perfect spring 2023 dewy lip look, tap a clear high-shine lip gloss over a natural-looking lip color.

SHINE THIS SPRING LIKE A Y2K STAR

High shine wasn’t just seen on lips on the runway for spring, but on the eyes in the form of metallic eye makeup, in homage to the aughts, as a highlighter along the tops of cheekbones, on eyebrows, and as embellishments on the face. And prominent, thicker, winged eyeliner and heavier mascara were seen defining the eyes. When wearing high-shine makeup, it’s best to leave at least one major feature, such as the eyes, lips, or cheeks more matte in texture, as wearing high-shine makeup on every feature may make you appear greasy.

Metallic-textured products reflect light and can act as a highlighter, making wherever they’re placed appear more prominent and the focal point of the face. If you have fine lines or skin texture issues such as crepey-textured skin, these types of products may spotlight these issues. Metallic-textured products are especially lovely for evening wear.

To find out where to highlight the tops of your cheekbones, lay your pointer and middle finger horizontally, directly underneath the outer corner of each eye. The area underneath your fingers is the area where you should apply a highlighter. Additionally, highlighter can be swept from your brow bones down towards your cheekbones in a “C” shape or from your hairline, following the natural angle of your cheekbone towards your nose, stopping three finger-widths away from your nose or at the outer corner of your eye’s iris.

Heavier eyeliner and/or winged eyeliner looks especially lovely on those with a round eye shape or who have downturned or doe-shaped eyes. If you have deep-set or sunken eyes, line the upper inner rims of your eyes instead of lining your upper eyelash line. This process will define your eyes without taking up any precious eyelid space. If you must line your upper eyelash line, keep the line as thin as possible. Thick eyeliner lines will make your eyes appear even more deep-set/sunken-looking.
